where, `sc_scroll` is the built-in function that scrolls the document.
# Question
How to send commands to zathura externally?
---
As a quick note, `sc_scroll` calls `position_set` at the end of itself. `sc_scroll` then calls `refresh_view(zathura)` in its end. Then `refresh_view` calls
```
g_signal_emit(zathura->ui.session->gtk.view, zathura->signals.refresh_view,
0, zathura);
which finally communicates with an [external packages](https://developer.gnome.org/gobject/stable/gobject-Signals.html).https://git.pwmt.org/pwmt/zathura/-/issues/175[Feature request] background variable like in vim2020-08-31T09:34:17+02:00Daniel[Feature request] background variable like in vimIn vim I can switch between dark and light version of a theme by setting
The idea is that the view is width-adapted to half of the page and when you scroll down, if you hit the bottom of the left column you wrap to the top-right corner of the same page, and if you hit the bottom of the right column you go to the top-left corner of the next page.
It is already implemented in some PDF readers for e-readers or android because it is simply super useful for small screen, but it would be great to have this in zathura for small screens (or even for bigger screen, it prevent breaking your reading flow).https://git.pwmt.org/pwmt/zathura/-/issues/160How to set mouse scroll step independent from keyboard scroll step?2023-05-02T19:24:25+02:00TillHow to set mouse scroll step independent from keyboard scroll step?I have the issue that when I scroll with my mouse it is (way) too fast and when I scroll with my keyboard it is too slow (when I `set scroll-step 1`).
Hi :D,
First of all, thanks a lot for developing this soft, I love it!
I wanned to know if it could be possible to add a feature to this, such that it could be possible to
fill some forms. It's actually the last thing that holds me back to adobe acrobat.
I know that pdfs weren't initially intended to be edited, but I have to do it so often that I don't want to
always print the paper, fill it with a pen and scan it...
I'm also ready to implement this feature, it's just that I think that it could be faster if someone that already knows this software could help/guide me.
Thanks in advance for your answers,
Rhylx
I use LaTeX-beamer to realize slides presentation. Displaying it, Zathura miss one feature : to allow dual screen presentation. In this mode, the public see slides and the conference speaker see his notes about slides.
Beamer can build a pdf with double width pages. Left-half is for the slide and right-half for notes. So the pdf-viewer needs to cut each page into two parts and to display this parts on the dedicated screen...
I hope it will come soon. Or someone knows a turn-around ?
However this can be very useful. For instance suppose that you are browsing a document every page of which has large top and bottom margins. You zoom and scroll until the useful part of the page takes up the whole screen, say the top of the screen starts at 20% of the height of the page (and the bottom of the screen ends at 80% of the height of the page). From there, currently you can move forward by 80% of the height of the page (by pressing Page Down) or by 60% of the height of the page (by pressing Space) but what you really want is to move forward by 100% of the height of the page, to avoid the margin at the top of next page.https://git.pwmt.org/pwmt/zathura/-/issues/36Allow mapping keys to a sequence of commands2019-02-25T22:17:24+01:00RijnderAllow mapping keys to a sequence of commandsIs there any interest in allowing keymaps to perform a sequence of commands, instead of just one? The syntax could be something like `map <key> command1; command2`. Coming from Emacs, I'm quite used to setting quickmarks whenever I make big jumps in files (e.g. searching, going to pages, jumping to the top/bottom of documents), which could easily be achieved when chaining was allowed. I think people could find other interesting time savers however. For the moment there is in Zathura an Index mode, but it’s a mode, it completely hide the ridden document and take the full width of the windows.
I was thanking of a side bar witch only take ~20% of the window, for example. I made a mokup for this:
![mokup](/uploads/c0389b7c348d5ed5397ef827706cbbb5/mokup.png)
So, as in the mokup, it would be nice if the pdf document was centered in the no-index zone
And, it would be great if we could navigate in this sidebar without changing the mode, just by adding a prefix key to index mode bindings, like, for example <kbd>alt</kbd>.
This is an example I made (but it could be something else):
<dl>
<dt><kbd>alt</kbd>+<kbd>k</kbd>, <kbd>alt</kbd>+<kbd>j</kbd></dt> <dd>Move to upper or lower entry</dd>
<dt><kbd>alt</kbd>+<kbd>l</kbd></dt> <dd>Expand entry</dd>
And the goal is to show only the blue area witch is the only important area, and we will get a rendering like this:
![trimed](/uploads/d77e94b6a7811118c63331ebf31185e3/trimed.png)
For this feature, we can use the <kbd>x</kbd> key binding, because <kbd>x</kbd> isn’t used by another feature in Zathura and the X letter remember the scissor form :scissors:. Then, the <kbd>x</kbd> key will toggle the trimed and the no-trimed mode.https://git.pwmt.org/pwmt/zathura/-/issues/11[Feature Request] Allow use of regular expressions in search pattern2021-01-31T18:05:32+01:00Iñigo Echeverría[Feature Request] Allow use of regular expressions in search patternIt would be great if there was a way to integrate with something like pdfgrep to allow for the use of regular expressions when searching text with the / command.
First of all, thank you very much for this great product you tailor! It is by far my most preferred pdf viewer (also a vim lover), I've been using it for years now.
The only feature I miss in zathura is the possibility of creating annotations, it really breaks the workflow to switch from one viewer to another just to annotate something and come back to zathura. I could read everything on any other pdf viewer, but they all fail not being like zathura... :(.
Before filling this issue I've carefully looked at the code of both mupdf and poppler plugins in the hope of finding a suitable way of adding this feature and implement it myself. In the end I recognized it should be added at the core level, so I went straight to the zathura code and saw a feature/annotations branch, but also, that is really out of my possibilities to implement it myself.
Best regards,
Guillermo.
